The hybrid version of the 599 GTB is expected to be revealed during the 2010 Geneva International Auto Show in March. Rumor has it that the hybrid 599 will use a modified version of the Kinetic Energy Retrieval System that was employed in Formula 1 racing in 2009 but discontinued in 2010. If that’s the case, an electric motor will be added to the car’s drivetrain that will act as a generator during braking to recover some energy, which would then be stored in a battery and used to boost performance on demand.
Overall a reduction of about 35% in fuel consumption (equivalent to about 17 litres per 100km) will be achieved.
